The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office has announced the rollout of Project STAR-CAM.

Project STAR-CAM is a potential database made up of registered doorbell cameras or security video systems.

Residents and businesses can register their cameras with authorities to allow the sheriff’s office to know where systems are located throughout the county.

According to ABC 57, in the event that authorities need assistance in a specific area, they could access the database to see if there was a registered camera in the area and would be able to reach out to the homeowner or business owner to exchange information.

The project is entirely voluntary and information provided will be kept confidential. Nobody will have immediate access to surveillance systems without getting permission from the owner beforehand.
