The pay status has changed for a police officer in South Bend accused of having sex with a teenage girl.

Rico Butler was also a school resource officer and boys basketball coach at a Mishawaka high school.

He was arrested on March 2 and is charged with child solicitation.

Butler was on paid leave while the investigation into the charges unfolded, but the South Bend Board of Public Safety met on Wednesday, March 13, and changed Butler’s status to unpaid leave.
