Residents in South Bend and Mishawaka got a report card of their city’s progress during the State Of The City addresses, both of which took place on Thursday evening, April 11.

In Mishawaka, Mayor Dave Wood said the new Mishawaka Fieldhouse, located northwest of Douglas and Capital, is about to become reality after five eyars of planning. Wood also said plans for the old City Hall to be used by United Way and other organizations to serve the city’s most vulnerable citizens are on track, as well.

In South Bend, Mayor James Mueller highlights several projects underway to redevelop some of the city’s neighbhorhoods and parks. He also talked about how South Bend will benefit from the “READI 2-point-0” funds that were just awarded to the region this week. But he also got political at the end of the address, criticizing the U.S. House of Representative leadership since the midterm elections and other recent election outcomes that caused some local partnerships to come to an end. He stated that the 2024 election that lies ahead could put a halt to many of the plans that the city has underway.
