Man, 19, charged in connection with shooting on Amhurst Avenue in South Bend

A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that wounded a male on South Bend’s southeast side.
On April 26, South Bend Police were dispatched to the 900 block of E. Amhurst Avenue on the report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located a male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Through an investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, 19-year-old Anthony Branch was identified as a suspect.
Following a review of case facts and evidence, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged Branch with Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon.
On Friday, May 10, Branch was taken into custody with assistance from the St. Joseph County Warrants Division.
Branch is being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
