Certifying Republican primary winner in District 49 race may take months

(Tommie Lee/953MNC)

It could be months before a Republican primary winner in the District 49 state representative race is actually certified.

That’s according to The Goshen News. They say the Elkhart County Election Board conducted an emergency meeting to discuss the recount in the District 49 race, tabulate military and overseas ballots and tabulate the mail ballots that arrived on Primary Election Day.

A petition for a recount had been filed on May 15 and an impoundment order was issued, indicating that the Indiana State Police would be impounding and securing all ballots and voting equipment used.

They say that what had been tabulated at the time of the May 7 primary is what will be recounted, but that recount may take several months.
