I&M warns of what to do if power line falls on your car

No matter what season we’re in, car accidents can happen in the blink of an eye.

That’s why I&M is hoping to inform everyone of what to do if you find yourself in a situation where your car has hit a pole, causing a line to fall on top of it.

If you end up with a line on your car, remain in your vehicle as long as safely possible. Call 911, and if you must leave your vehicle, avoid contact with the ground and your vehicle at the same time.

Exit by jumping from your vehicle and landing with both feet together, and shuffle or hop away, keeping both feet together.

However, they say if you can safely remain in your car, wait until the line is de-energized and first responders say it is safe to exit.

And, if you witness an accident resulting in a downed line, do not approach the vehicle.
