The language in a recall petition against a Benton Harbor School Trustee has been rejected.

The effort to oust Trustee Elnora Gavin was dealt a blow Monday when the Berrien County Election Commission met on Monday.

WSJM reports that the recall language from Jerry Edwards of Benton Harbor was deemed “unclear” by the commission. The petition stated that Gavin should be removed from office for voting against the hiring of certain support staff at the district. But the word “approve” was misspelled, creating confusion.

Edwards says he intends to refile the petition.
