A proposed auto wrecking yard could replace the South Bend Motor Speedway, where the final race took place on Saturday.
The new project would take over the land, transforming it from a racetrack into a junkyard.
Insurance Auto Auction has proposed the wrecking yard, but the plan needs rezoning approval, meaning the speedway would close for good.
Tony Eldridge, the speedway’s general manager, says there’s not enough supply and demand.
