Elkhart woman struck by hit-and-run driver along County Road 24

An Elkhart woman was injured Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run incident while walking along County Road 24.

It happened around 7:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Sep. 17, east of County Road 9.

The 53-year-old woman told police she was walking on the side of County Road 24 when a vehicle failed to yield, hitting her with its passenger-side mirror.

She said the driver of the vehicle, described as a dark-colored SUV or minivan, briefly slowed down but then continued eastbound without returning to the scene. Another driver reportedly honked at the vehicle following the collision.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Police Lieutenant Casey Lehman with the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office at 574-891-2372.
