The Historic Preservation Commission of South Bend and St. Joseph County passed a resolution in 2023, naming its Top Ten Most Endangered Properties.

The Commission is nearing the release of its Top Ten Most Endangered for 2024, so they’re celebrating the progress made on properties on the 2023 list.

While Portage Manor and The State Theatre have not seen any changes, other properties have seen major changes.

A grant is being applied for to help fund the restoration of the City Cemetery Gate, and plans for a new roof on The Pierre Navarre Cabin are underway after it was moved to the History Museum’s campus.

Window restoration has been completed or approved for the Studebaker Administration Building, the Birdsell Mansion and The People’s Church, and The South Bend Tribune Building was purchased by the University of Notre Dame with plans for a tech and talent Hub.

The only building on last year’s list to face deconstruction was The Pleasant View School.
