An Elkhart man charged with burglary and other violent felonies was sentenced in court last week.

48-year-old Pedro Portillo was charged with burglary, strangulation, domestic battery with priors and intimidation from an incident that happened in June.

It happened when Portillo allegedly broke into an Elkhart home, threatening and battering his ex-fiancee.

The Goshen News says the victim told police she had agreed to meet Portillo, but when he arrived at the house around 11 a.m., he allegedly became physically violent, punching her, forcing his way into and throughout the home, pulling her hair, choking her and stating that he was going to kill her.

Portillo was sentenced to two years at the Indiana Department of Corrections for Residential Entry and Strangulation.

The Intimidation and Domestic Battery charges were dismissed.
