The Republican majorities in the Indiana House and State Senate have voted to keep leadership in place for the next session.
State Rep. Todd Huston (R-Fishers) was re-elected House Speaker and will serve a second full term in that role. In the Senate, Rod Bray (R-Martinsville) was again elected president pro-tempore and Senator Chris Garsten (R-Charlestown) will remain the majority floor leader.
“It’s a tremendous honor and a privilege to lead our House Republican team, especially as Indiana’s future has never looked brighter,” Huston said in a news release. “We’re ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work delivering results for Hoosier taxpayers. I look forward to partnering with Governor-elect Mike Braun and our Senate colleagues in the session ahead.”
Republicans have super majorities in both chambers with 40 of the 50 Senate seats and at least 67 of the 100 House seats.
As for the Democrat minorities, they too have announced their leadership for both chambers. State Rep. Phil GiaQuinta (D-Fort Wayne) will once again take on the role of Indiana House Democratic leader.
“I’m thankful that House Democrats have once again entrusted me to lead our efforts at the Statehouse to protect our freedoms and build up Indiana’s working class,” GiaQuinta said in an emailed statement. “As we enter next year’s budget session, Indiana House Democrats’ priorities are the same as they always have been: people before profit.”
State Rep. Carey Hamilton (D-Indianapolis) was reelected as the minority caucus chair and State Rep. Cherrish Pryor (D-Indianapolis) was reelected as the minority floor leader.
