Dowagiac shooting leaves one injured, suspect in custody

A shooting in Dowagiac left one person injured following a physical altercation that escalated into gunfire.

Police were called to the 300 block of W. Telegraph St. at approximately 11:20 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, where they found a victim with a gunshot wound. Investigators learned the incident began as a fight involving three individuals. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly drew a concealed handgun and shot the victim before fleeing on foot.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities identified the suspect as Marcus Haskins, a Dowagiac resident. Haskins was apprehended without incident around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 23.

Haskins was arraigned in Cass County on multiple charges, including two counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, and five counts of felony firearm.

His bond has been set at $300,000, and he remains in custody at the Cass County Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
