A single-vehicle crash left a 21-year-old Elkhart man injured and his Toyota RAV4 severely damaged. The accident occurred around 2 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, on County Road 28, west of County Road 101, about three miles southwest of Elkhart city limits.
The driver of the 2004 Toyota SUV, was traveling eastbound when the vehicle veered off the south side of the roadway. The RAV4 struck a mailbox and two trees before going airborne, landing on its passenger side, rolling over, and coming to rest upright on the north side of the road.
First responders transported the driver to Elkhart General Hospital, where he was treated for a facial laceration, chest pain, and other injuries. Authorities confirmed he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Alcohol might have played a role in the incident, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, though no further details were provided. The accident remains under investigation.
