A 6-year-old boy has died, and two others were hospitalized following a tragic incident Saturday evening in the 1000 block of W. Wolf Ave. Authorities suspect carbon monoxide exposure played a role.

Elkhart Police responded to a 911 hang-up call at 7:06 p.m. on December 14, arriving at 1019 W. Wolf Ave. Officers found a group of people outside the residence, who directed them to a vehicle parked nearby. Inside the vehicle, police discovered the young boy unconscious. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until medics arrived. Despite continued CPR efforts en route to the hospital, the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Meanwhile, officers located a 26-year-old woman unconscious in the residence’s doorway. Medics provided aid before transporting her to the hospital. A 55-year-old man found upstairs, conscious but requiring medical attention, was also hospitalized.

Preliminary investigation revealed elevated carbon monoxide levels in the home. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit has taken over the case, as per protocol, and continues to investigate.

The Homicide Unit will provide further updates as they become available. Anyone with information is urged to contact the unit at 574-295-2825.
