New Michigan farm project: Energy from manure

Michigan farmers are turning cow manure into clean energy.

Last week the Michigan Strategic Fun approved Freehold Energy RNG to pursue a tax-exempt bond for their project.

WSJM reports new facilities would be built in St. Joseph and Muskegon Counties to produce renewable natural gas from dairy waste. That’s a local investment of $75-80 million.

One project developer claims this equates to about 4.3 million gallons of gas per year, or the equivalent of removing 20,000 cars from the road.

Construction would begin in the new year, with the facilities becoming operational in 2026.
