BBB warns of common scams to look out for

The Better Business Bureau in Western Michigan says phishing scam reports doubled last year.

However, despite the increase, online purchase scams remained the most reported scam type in the area. This year, the BBB is warning you to watch for these common scams.

Research companies before making purchases, and visit the brand’s direct website. If the price seems too good to be true, know that it probably is, and try to avoid unusual payment methods.

As for phishing scams, know that if something sounds suspicious, call the company directly, and do not click on, download or open anything coming from an anonymous sender.

Finally, when looking for employment, be sure to research the companies on the BBB website, and never pay a company money when applying to work for them.
