Local Congressmen address their votes to strengthen the border

Second District Representative from Indiana Rudy Yakim issued a statement Tuesday after voting in favor of the Laken Riley Act, which passed the U.S. House with bipartisan support.

Yakim noted the death of Riley, whom he said was “brutally murdered in cold blood by an illegal immigrant” and said the Republican-led House acted to ensure no other family has to endure such a crime, while urging the Senate to pass the legislation.

Meanwhile, 5th District Congressman Tim Wahlberg of Michigan also voted for the bill, noting that under the Biden administration, more than 8.8 million illegal immigrant encounters were recorded at the southern border.
