A LaPorte man was taken to the hospital after allegedly crashing while leading police on a chase.

36-year-old Derek Harrison was reportedly pulled over in a stolen vehicle around 7:30 Sunday morning when he briefly stopped but then sped off and led police on a chase through multiple county roads.

The chase ended when Harrison reportedly crossed all lanes of US-20 and hit a utility pole, though when police approached the vehicle he allegedly pulled out a weapon and tried to leave the scene.

Negotiations took about two hours before Harrison was taken into custody.
