Registered sex offender from Steuben County on the run

(Photo supplied)

Police say a registered sex offender from Steuben County is on the run, and they need your help to find him.

According to the county sheriff’s office, 34-year-old Mitchell Hephner may now be in Ohio or Michigan, but he also has “ties” to Allen and DeKalb counties.

He is wanted for failing to register as a sex or violent offender. Chief Deputy Sheriff Michael Meeks notes that registration cases usually involve people living at unregistered addresses, not registering at all, or giving false information to officers.

Hephner is described as a 6’1″, 190-pound white man with “straggly” brown hair and brown eyes, as well as “numerous” tattoos – including on his face. He was last known to be driving a black Mercury Milan with Indiana plate #NGG747.

If you see him or know anything about this, you are asked to contact your local law enforcement office, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers, or the U.S. Marshals Service Tip Line.
