Man accused of shooting, killing South Bend security guard sentenced to 65 years

St. Joseph County Jail
A man who shot and killed a security guard in a South Bend parking garage has been sentenced to 65 years in prison.
In March 2023, guard Robert Pulliam Jr. was fatally shot while asking Derrick Pratcher, 35, to leave the area. Investigators say Pratcher had been loitering and looking into parked cars. As Pulliam turned his back, Pratcher shot him.
Pratcher was charged with murder and two counts of unlawful handgun possession. In a plea deal, he admitted guilt but claimed mental illness, leading to the dismissal of the weapons charges.

He got 65 years, but he should have gotten a feet first trip into a wood chipper. Bring back public executions!
