Leader Publications says homeowners should be aware that scammers are targeting vulnerable property owners with false promises of assistance before stripping them of equity, ownership rights or additional funds.

Tax deadlines are approaching, which may have some feeling overwhelmed or stressed.

The illegal schemes are often designed to make a profit off the person facing the tension of deadlines.

They say the elderly are particularly at risk and are being warned to watch out for any suspicious calls, emails, text messages or personal mailings.
