Three men were arrested after multiple reports of gunfire led officers to two locations in the county.
The incident, Friday evening, March 7, began near Michigan Street and Adams Road, where police responded to a shooting complaint involving a parked van that had been struck by bullets.
Officers recovered shell casings as evidence.
Shortly after, another report of gunfire came from the 51000 block of State Road 933. Upon arrival, officers spotted four males fleeing into a wooded area. A coordinated effort by afternoon and night shift officers led to the arrest of three suspects.
The individuals taken into custody were identified as:
- Michael Winston, 23 – Preliminary charges: Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Recklessness, and Resisting Law Enforcement.
- Angelo Perez, 24 – Preliminary charges: Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Recklessness, and Resisting Law Enforcement. Perez also had two outstanding felony warrants in St. Joseph County.
- Fabian Yanez, 20 – Preliminary charges: Criminal Recklessness and Resisting Law Enforcement.
During the investigation, officers recovered multiple weapons and evidence, including an AK-47 believed to be used in the initial shooting, a pistol-grip shotgun, and a stolen handgun from South Bend. Another handgun was found discarded in the woods. Authorities also seized ammunition in various calibers, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
The case has been forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office for formal charges.
