Indiana State Police investigating inmate death at St. Joseph County Jail

The Indiana State Police have launched an investigation into the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail after being called to the facility early Saturday morning.

According to preliminary reports, jail staff were alerted around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, when an inmate reported that another inmate was experiencing an unknown medical emergency inside a cell.

Staff immediately initiated lifesaving measures until emergency responders from the South Bend Fire Department arrived. Despite their efforts, the inmate, identified as Jordan Sanders, 32, of South Bend, was pronounced dead at the jail.

An autopsy, including toxicology testing, is scheduled for Sunday, March 16, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
