The South Bend school board is ending its contract with SSC Services for Education due to rising costs.

Since 2021, outsourcing maintenance has become too expensive. Bringing maintenance in-house is expected to save the district $3-5 million annually.

A recent study showed the district lost $7 million in the 2021-22 school year after hiring SSC.

The board decided to move forward with insourcing, avoiding a termination fee after giving SSC a 90-day notice, ending the contract on March 31.
