Bridgman Public Schools making major cuts

Some major cuts are coming to Bridgman Public Schools.

Due to a drop in the taxable value of the Cook nuclear power plant, nearly $1.26 million in cuts will be made this year.

12 education positions are being reduced, and no replacements will be brought in for those who have retired or left the district.

The 9th grade boys basketball team will be eliminated, and the replacement of aging Chromebooks will not continue. Additional cuts will also be made.

District leaders have been working on targeted cuts for multiple months to ensure only small changes are noticed.

WSJM states that Superintendent Shane Peters believes administrators worked to make fine changes that do not affect the quality of education in Bridgman.
