IU South Bend students are helping provide free tax preparation for those in the community.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers free tax preparation for low and moderate-income individuals.

This year, IU South Bend’s accounting and finance students are assisting at some sites to ensure taxpayers get all deductions and credits they are eligible for.

Students are able to gain hands-on experience while they apply the knowledge they have gained in the classroom.

All volunteers preparing returns must have taken and passed tax law training that met or exceeded the IRS standards.
