Western Avenue in South Bend shut down due to burst water main, flooding

A detour was set up in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 15, in the area of Western Avenue between Wellington and Illinois Streets in South Bend as crews work to address a water line burst.

For residents, is a concern of flooded yards on Illinois Street.

Homes in this area may be without water service at some point this morning when crews shut off the water to fix the line, according to South Bend Police.

Officers were going door-to-door along Illinois Street to alert homeowners of the possibility of flooded basements as crews continue to address the nearby burst.
