An Elkhart man is facing a murder charge in the death of a 20-month-old boy.

The child was hospitalized in December with severe head trauma and died on December 20.

21-year-old Miguel Garcia and the child’s mother said the child fell on December 13, but doctors did not believe the injuries matched the explanation given.

The Goshen News says a skull fracture, brain bleeding, liver damage and other signs of abuse were present, and his death was ruled a homicide.

Garcia’s trial was rescheduled from May to August 4.
