Police pursuit ends in arrest, Firearm recovered on South Bend’s northwest side

A police chase on South Bend’s northwest side ended with the arrest of a man after he allegedly fled from officers and pointed a firearm at them during the pursuit.
According to the South Bend Police Department, the incident began around 1:55 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, when the department’s Strategic Focus Unit observed a traffic violation near Olive and Roger Streets. When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver, sped away, prompting a pursuit.
The chase ended near Cottage Grove Avenue and Oak Street, where the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Police say the suspect, identified as Teelyn Johnson, 31, pulled a gun from his waistband and pointed it toward officers.
K9 Officer Zeke was deployed and helped officers apprehend Johnson. A firearm with an extended magazine and suspected marijuana were recovered at the scene.
Johnson was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail and is awaiting formal charges from the county prosecutor’s office.
