A suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with a weekend shooting at a South Bend restaurant/bar.
It was around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 4, when South Bend Police responded to the 3400 block of W. Sample Street on a ShotSpotter notification. As officers were en route, they were advised of a male with an apparent gunshot wound at that location.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Through an investigation by the South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit, Jose Ortiz, 23, was identified as a suspect.
On Wednesday, Ortiz was arrested for his role in the shooting. The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office filed the following charges today against Ortiz:
– Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon
– Criminal Recklessness
– Possession of Meth
Ortiz is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
