A man accused of stealing from family has been sentenced.
The Goshen News says Elkhart police were investigating a top about a stolen gun and were on St. Joseph St. when they came across Evan Milianta. He reportedly told officers he found a gun on Franklin St., though 78 loose bullets were found in Milianta’s backpack.
Officers investigated a burglary where the victim said Milianta had stolen items from the home.
Reports say Milianta allegedly walked in through an unlocked door and took the gun, claiming threats had been made against their family members. He also reportedly took other items, including a PlayStation 5 and Dell PC, but returned the items when he was confronted.
He was sentenced for burglary to six years at the IDOC with four years suspended on reporting probation and the remaining two years to be served on Elkhart County Community Corrections with a recommendation of home detention.
