A legislation effort in Michigan seeks to make the state a “next of kin” state.

A pair of bills being considered would allow a close relative to make medical decisions for incapacitated Michiganders and avoid the legal guardianship process.

The legislation is designed to keep family members out of the courtroom fighting over guardianship to spend the precious last time with a loved one.
