A man accused of stealing a car from Michigan was sentenced to a lesser charge in Elkhart Circuit Court.
In February, police tried to stop a stolen Ford F-150 at County Road 17 and Beck Drive, but the vehicle fled and was later struck after running a red light.
The truck, stolen from Three Rivers, Michigan, had been left running at a gas station by its owner. Police said Daniel Starcher, who was involved in the crash, had stolen the truck and driven it home to pick up his dog before the crash.
Starcher pleaded guilty to resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony, and the auto theft charge was dropped.
He was sentenced to two years at the Indiana Department of Corrections due to aggravating factors.
