Michiana Crime Stoppers has announced a reduction in its Speedy Reward payout, lowering the amount from $300 to $150, effective Friday, May 30, 2025, at 5 p.m. The Speedy Reward is given to anonymous tipsters whose information leads to the arrest of a felony fugitive with an active warrant.
This change comes in response to rising reward payouts and a decline in funding from corporate donors, fundraising, and law enforcement agencies. Speedy Rewards make up about 80 to 85 percent of the program’s payouts.
The board consulted with other crime programs nationwide before making the decision, noting that the new $150 reward aligns with similar programs while still offering a higher payout than many others. Michiana Crime Stoppers continues to allow tipsters to claim rewards during regular banking hours, unlike other programs with limited hours.
Other reward categories, such as the $1,000 Victory Over Violence reward and up to $2,500 for homicide cases, remain unchanged.
Since its inception in 1983, Michiana Crime Stoppers has helped solve over 12,000 cases, leading to more than 9,000 arrests and the recovery of over $18.45 million in narcotics and stolen property. All Speedy Rewards authorized before the change will still be eligible for the $300 payout.
