One man is dead and another critically injured after a shooting late Thursday night, May 29, at a Michigan City residence.

Police were first alerted around 10:58 p.m. when a 911 call came in reporting an attempted killing near Dewey Street and Michigan Boulevard. Officer Dokmanovic responded and found a man nearby. While speaking with him, another man emerged from a home at 1824 E. Michigan Boulevard and reported that someone had been shot inside.

Officers from Michigan City, Long Beach, Trail Creek, and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene. Inside the home, two brothers – 25-year-old Treven Armstrong of Gary and 24-year-old Christopher Armstrong of Indianapolis – were found with gunshot wounds. Treven Armstrong died from his injuries. His brother was taken to Franciscan Hospital and later transferred to South Bend Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

The Michigan City Police Investigative Division, with help from the LaPorte County Prosecutor’s Office, obtained a search warrant and processed the scene. Evidence and witness statements led investigators to identify 23-year-old D’Marcus Thompson of Gary as the suspect.

Thompson was located and arrested by Officer Rachel Davis in the 300 block of South Woodland Avenue. He was found carrying a 9mm handgun.

Following an investigation, formal charges were filed against Thompson. Magistrate Erika Stallworth approved an arrest warrant charging him with murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery, and criminal recklessness. Bond was set at $1 million cash only.
