Emergency Room visits due to nitrous oxide have grown tremendously in Michigan.
The state says ER visits due to nitrous oxide misuse increased by 757% from 2019 to 2023.
Many believe the gas offers a safe and legal high, though that is not the case.
Nitrous oxide is generally purchased online or at smoke shops, coming in multiple flavors.
However, harm is greatly associated with the misuse of the gas. WSJM says nitrous oxide is widely available, but that does not mean it is entirely safe to use.

A 757% increase sounds scary, but it’s not really meaningful.
If one person had the issue in 2019, and nine people did in 2023, that is an 800% increase! It’s still only 9 people though…
