Staff at the Cook nuclear power plant in Bridgman are getting ready for a major emergency drill.
Every two years, county, state and federal agencies visit the plant to ensure staff are prepared in the case of a disaster.
So, the staff at the plant held a “rehearsal” drill last week. When the drills take place, the plant’s Emergency Response Organization members receive texts telling them to get to one of the four emergency facilities.
In-house drills are completed quarterly, according to WSJM, assuring the public of the plant’s safety.
The big drill with partner agencies is scheduled for June 24. FEMA, the NRC, the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police will all be involved, ensuring everyone at the plant knows what to do in the case of a real emergency.
