Fish consumption guidelines adjusted for Michigan anglers

New PFAS chemical guidelines have changed the guidelines for fish consumption in Michigan.

Michigan has lowered the number of fish it says can be safely eaten from the state’s waters contaminated with the forever chemicals. Nearly 100 bodies of water around the state are now subject to “do not eat” advisories.

Last year there were only 33 bodies of water on the list. Anglers are being warned against eating their catch in many parts of the state, and meals of certain fish species caught in the wild should be limited to between 6 and 16 servings per year to avoid a buildup of PFAS in the body.
