An Indiana State Trooper is facing criminal charges following an investigation into allegations of theft and misconduct.
Trooper Andrew Kocsis, 39, was charged Monday in St. Joseph County Superior Court with theft and obstruction of justice, both Level 6 felonies, as well as fraud, a Class A misdemeanor.
Kocsis, a member of the Indiana State Police since 2008, had most recently been assigned to the agency’s General Headquarters in Indianapolis. The investigation began in October 2024 after an alleged victim came forward with theft accusations. Indiana State Police opened a formal investigation into the matter.
The case was handled by Special Prosecutor James D. Luttrull of Marion, Indiana.
Kocsis is scheduled to appear in court for his initial hearing on July 8. In the meantime, he has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of both the criminal proceedings and an internal investigation.
