A joint law enforcement effort dubbed “Operation Blue Thunder” led to 68 criminal arrests and the seizure of various illegal drugs and firearms during a four-day traffic enforcement blitz along U.S. 31.
From June 16 to June 19, officers from the Indiana State Police, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Wabash County Sheriff’s Office, Wabash Police Department, and Rochester Police Department conducted saturation patrols using both marked and unmarked vehicles. K-9 units were also deployed to assist in drug detection.
The operation targeted drug trafficking on U.S. 31, a major thoroughfare through northern Indiana. Officers issued 102 traffic citations and 272 warnings in addition to the arrests, which included 163 criminal charges-29 of them felonies. Two impaired drivers were also taken into custody.
Among the drugs seized were cocaine, LSD, methamphetamine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms, edible marijuana products, MDMA, THC oil, ketamine, and prescription medications. Syringes, drug paraphernalia, and two firearms were also recovered.
Authorities say the operation was part of a broader effort to keep illegal drugs off Indiana roads and out of Hoosier communities, especially as travel increases during the summer months.
