A St. Joseph County, Michigan prosecutor has been formally reprimanded for misconduct during a 2024 court case.
According to court documents, former Assistant Prosecutor Deborah Davis misled the court during a January 16 bond hearing by implying the victim failed to appear out of fear of the defendant.
In reality, Davis had met with the victim beforehand, told her the case would be dismissed, and had her escorted out of the courthouse.
As a result, the defendant’s bond was revoked, and they remained in jail longer than necessary. WSBT reports an internal investigation led to Davis’s termination in January of last year.
A scheduled prehearing conference, set for early June, was canceled after both parties agreed to a consent resolution.
Davis was ordered to pay more than $1-thousand dollars in fees.
