Homicide investigation now underway after weekend shooting on O’Brien Street in South Bend

A weekend shooting that wounded two people in South Bend has been elevated to a homicide investigation.

On Saturday, July 5, around 11:20 p.m., South Bend Police were called to the 300 block of O’Brien Street on the report of shots fired. As officers were investigating, they were advised of two males who arrived at Memorial Hospital with apparent gunshot wounds.

One victim, 21-year-old Jamarion Watson, was critically injured. The other victim, an 18-year-old male, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Watson ultimately succumbed to his injuries on the evening of Monday, July 7. His autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday) in Kalamazoo.

The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is actively investigating this shooting.
