A 19-year-old Granger man was arrested following a three-vehicle crash Friday afternoon that left three people with minor injuries, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision occurred just after 3:20 p.m. on Friday, July 25, near the intersection of County Road 16 and Connecticut Avenue, about a mile south of Elkhart’s city limits.
Investigators say Timothy Bawa II was driving a 2006 Acura TL eastbound on County Road 16 when he passed several vehicles over a double yellow line. His vehicle struck a westbound 2013 Dodge Dart head-on, then continued forward and hit a 2019 Ford Econoline van before swerving off the road and coming to rest near a utility pole. Bawa then reportedly reversed onto the road and sideswiped the van before continuing eastbound.
The driver of the Dart was treated at the scene. The driver of the van was not injured, but three of his passengers were transported to Elkhart General Hospital with complaints of pain.
Bawa was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Correctional Facility. He faces preliminary charges including operating while intoxicated causing injury, reckless driving, and other related offenses.
The crash remains under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
