A late-night police chase in South Bend led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the detention of three juveniles.
According to the South Bend Police Department, officers with the Strategic Focus Unit spotted a vehicle traveling without headlights around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, near Studebaker Street and LaPorte Avenue. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled, prompting a brief pursuit.
The chase ended in the 400 block of North Walnut Street, where three individuals got out of the vehicle and ran. Two were quickly apprehended, though one initially resisted arrest. A third suspect was tracked down near Cleveland and LaPorte Avenues with the help of K9 officer Zeke.
Police later confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of South Bend. All three suspects were juveniles, ages 15 to 17. Officers contacted the Juvenile Justice Center, but were advised none of the teens would be detained. They were released to their parents.
The investigation is ongoing.
