Why there were power outages in Mishawaka on Sunday

Many residents on the south side of Mishawaka experienced power outages early Sunday morning. Mishawaka Utilities said customers in the southeast part of the city began losing power overnight.

Crews worked through the morning, performing switching procedures to restore service. By 11 a.m., power was fully restored to all affected customers.

Officials say the outages were caused by problems at several Indiana Michigan Power facilities.

Around 10 a.m., Mishawaka Fire responded quickly to a fire at a substation on West 13th Street, which also led to outages in the area.
