Man arrested after allegedly holding girlfriend, children hostage

Police in northwestern Indiana arrested a man who allegedly held his girlfriend and children hostage in Portage.
Concerned neighbors received distressing messages from the woman inside the home, prompting police to respond to the domestic disturbance.
The Crisis Negotiation and SWAT teams were called in as the man was possibly armed.
After an hour and a half standoff, negotiators were able to make contact with the man, leading to his detainment and the safe release of the woman and her children.
The suspect’s identity and charges were not disclosed by the police.
