SBCSC addresses transportation issues

South Bend Community School Corporation officials updated the public about some ongoing transportation issues on Monday.
A survey of departing parents showed transportation as the top concern, including routing, bus repairs, and driver retention. Many former drivers cited pay as the main issue.
District leaders say they’ve hired additional drivers but will still combine or cancel some routes. The school board agreed that raising pay would help retain and attract drivers.
WSBT reports the district is aiming for 120 bus drivers, higher wages, and better bus fleet management by the 2026-2027 school year.
