Goshen man arrested after crash injures child

A Goshen man was arrested after a crash on County Road 30 that injured him and a 6-year-old passenger.

According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened just before 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, near the intersection of County Roads 30 and 11. Deputies said a Dodge Charger was headed east when it ran off the south side of the road, overturned in a ditch, and sustained heavy damage.

The driver, Byron Coleman, 32, of Goshen, suffered cuts to his head and arm and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital. His 6-year-old passenger, who was not properly restrained, was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital with leg and knee injuries.

Investigators reported Coleman showed signs of impairment and failed a certified breath test. He was booked into the Elkhart County Jail on charges of operating while intoxicated with a passenger under 18, causing serious bodily injury.
