INDOT is adding a pair of sites to its worksite speed control pilot program, and one of them is in Steuben County.

Deployments for the Safe Zones program have been announced for I-70 in Hancock County, and for the I-80/90 Toll Road in Steuben County near Fremont. The Safe Zone will be set up between Mile Markers 142 and 143.

Previous Safe Zones have seen a roughly 70% reduction in excessive speeds, resulting in safer conditions for both drivers and road workers. Once the Safe Zones are activated, any vehicle traveling 11 mph or more over the posted speed limit will receive a violation notice via mail. Multiple violations can result in fines up to $150.
